The “Russian Ark”, the masterpiece directed by Alexander Sokurov, is a single long sequence that depicts three centuries of Russian history in a remarkable manner.
Experiencing a long journey among dancing scenes and strange encounters with illustrious personalities, the spectator get the impression to be in a kaleidoscopic carousel, a “third dimension” that can disappear in any time or as if it never existed, but it’s real in the moment we think of this.
Overall, spectator remains a simple observer with the constant doubt to be just a witness of ghosts apparitions or most likely witness of Sokurov’s complacency in self celebrating the Russian history.
Apart from this, “Russian Ark” is a stunning and eccentric visual experience never boring.
