It's as if Antonioni had a natural successor in the form of a female director from Berlin. The spaces, locations and city scapes tell as much about the characters as they do themselves by reflecting cold feelings, apathy, emptiness and lonliness while searching for a reson to exist. Two people, naturally attracted to one another with a cultural barrier and this could have been so cliche if Maria Speth didn't bother to give her characters silent personality but she did and in doing so has made a very personal and emotional movie. It's one of my all time favorites.
